Rockie Charles – Festis Believe in Justice – Born For You (1996 release- Orleans Records)) We lost another legend. Rockie Charles, writer, vocalist and guitarist passed away on March 12. Rockie, a great soul singer and guitarist died at 67 after a long battle with cancer. He was 67, born Charles Merrick in Boothville, Louisiana, November 14, 1942. Played for years at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Cafe in New Orleans. In the 1960′s he hit the road backing O.V. Wright, Percy Sledge, Otis Redding and others. In recent years Rockie was a member of the great collection of artists that performed at the Ponderose Stomp. Some of my fondest memories are seeing him at the Ponderosa Stomp in Memphis and at Margaritaville in New Orleans.
