Lots of new music to get March off to a great start. Since taking over the show in early February I’ve probably listened to over 40 cds. I’ve found my favorite. Keeper of the Chicago Blues Flame – Nick Moss And The Fliptops latest is just unbelievable. Consisting of two live sounding discs (this is a studio recording), Nick and some special guests (Eddie Taylor, Jr. & Barrelhouse Chuck), along with his usual touring band – The Flip Tops – bring the Chicago Blues sound pure as the 50′s & 60′s on “Play It ‘Til Tomorrow,” on Blue Bella Records. From the opening track, “Late Night Saint” til “It’s Written In The Bible” the final track, your ears will be filled with the real deal. Nick Moss will be at Blues ‘N March – a Blues Marathon in Buffalo on March 29th.
Steve Guyger returns with his harp and a new release entitled – “Radio Blues” on Severn Records. Besides his new release, Steve makes an appearance on Dennis Gruenling’s new release “I Just Keep Lovin’ Him” a tribute to Little Walter on BackBender Records. You can also see both of these Harp Players this month in Buffalo at the Blues ‘N March show. Kim Wilson, Rick Estrin & Rusty Zinn also make appearances on Dennis’ new cd.
From NorthernBlues Music we have the debut release of Samuel James “Songs Famed For Sorrow and Joy.” I think we’ll be hearing lots of great music from this young gifted musician in the years to come. If you are into just solo blues guitar and vocals this could be the one for you. Fortunately there for us, NorthernBlues supplied me with another great new release Moreland & Arbuckle “1861.” Aaron Moreland on Cigar Box Guitars & Dustin Arbuckle on Vocals & Harmonica. A match made in Kansas. Thus the title – “1861″ the year Kansas became a state. I hope these guys like to tour – like toward the East Coast, this would be a great act to see at a festival this summer. As I write this its snowing buckets outside, so I need to think – Summer – Festivals – Blues!!!!!!!!!
Mike Morgan and The Crawl are back!!!! The new release “Stronger Every Day” (Severn Records) has me circling almost every track and wanting more. Complete with a tribute cover of the late Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown signature tune “Okie Dokie Stomp,” this disc is a great mix of instrumentals and down and dirty electric blues.
